- Details of Event
- Perforation of gastric ulcer resulting from a strain which probably occurred as he and his comrade were carrying a stick 6 feet 6 inches long, and 46lbs. in weight on a roomy level road past a tram. Post mortem examination showed that the ulcer was of long standing and its existence dangerous at any time. The perforation, however, would not have occurred without some exciting cause, and a strain would cause it. The case is one which apparently has to be included as a colliery accident but it is one likely to happen anywhere and is really the indirect result of dyspepsia to which the ulcer is attributable.
