- Details of Event
- He and two other men had just fixed some canvas in a gateway and were in the act of putting their clothes on close by, when a small piece of coal from the side, and about 8 feet a fell and caught deceased on the back and pushed him out of the way and he fell on his right side. Little was thought of the injuries at the time and he almost recovered from them, but he took pneumonia, from which he died on the 21st, November. There was an element of doubt as to whether his death was caused by the pneumonia natural causes, or the injury contributed to setting it up and these accelerated n the mans death. Dr. Wallis of Barnsley, who made the post mortem examination, gave evidence at the inquest and said that he inclined to the view that the setting up of pneumonia was favoured by injury and the jury returned a verdict to this effect.
