- 6 November 1927: Fatal Accident in Shale Mine - While engaged with several other men carrying out repairs in No.4 Mine, Deans, belonging to Scottish Oils (Ltd.) Thomas M'Vicar, Mid Street, Livingstone Station Rows Bathgate, was killed by a fall of shale and debris. So great was the fall that nearly four hours elapsed before the body was recovered. Several other workers had narrow escapes. Deceased leaves a widow and family. [Scotsman 8 November 1927]
