- A lad attending a door at the inbye end of a landing had heard a cracking sound, and he reported to the deputy. The deputy told two putters near to drive on through the door, which they did. One of the putters returned, and along with the deputy was looking at the roof when a stone 9 feet lung by 3.5 foot wide by 5 feet at the thickest part broke over a balk and fell right on to him. The putter was killed and the deputy injured. The top stone seemed sound the balks were only 5 feet apart. After the accident additional balks were put in to reduce the distance apart to one half.
