Falls in Mine (b) Falls of Roof – He was trying to disconnect one of the bridges of a Blackett face conveyer when a fall of roof occurred pinning him down. Before he could be liberated a further fall took place which killed him almost instantly. The area over which the roof fell was 5 ft long by 4 ft. wide, the distance of deceased from the face being 11 ft. The place had been examined by the fireman about 15 minutes previously and reported safe. Systematic strapping might have prevented the accident. Newspaper report - Old Monkland pages
