22 June 1940: Boy Pit Worker Killed - Robert Kerr M'Millan, a seventeen-year-old miner's drawer employed in the Gore Pit, owned by the Arniston Coal Co. Ltd. received fatal injuries on Saturday when he was knocked down by a runaway hutch. Death was instantaneous. The youth lived with his parents at 10 Pentland Avenue, Gowkshill, Newtongrange.
