- 11 August 1931: Blantyre Colliery Accident - When at work yesterday in No.2 Pit of Blantyre Collieries, belonging to Messrs William Dixon (Limited). Joseph M'Kernan (married), who resides at 5 Joanna Terrace, Blantyre was seriously injured when he was pinned under a large and heavy stone which came away from the roof and after being attended by a doctor he was removed to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The full extent of his injuries could not be determined as, besides cuts on face and body, it is feared that his back had been seriously injured. [Scotsman 12 August 1931]
