- 8 January 1920: Miner's Tragic Death – John M'Intosh, a colliery motorman, who resided at 47 Clyde Street, Newton, died with tragic suddenness at Hallside Colliery, about 6 o'clock on Thursday morning. He had just arrived at the pithead after completing his nights work underground when he collapsed and expired before medical aid could be summoned. Deceased who leaves a widow and family, was 62 years of age and had a long honourable association with Newton district. He was a highly respected member of Cambuslang Royal Arch” Lodge No 114, and for many years assisted in the training of Newton Colliery bandsmen. In token of sympathy and respect the miners remained idle for the day. [The Lanarkshire 10 January 1920]
