On November 16th, 1906, his mate was cutting ‘day beds’ or coal in the roof in a gateway and he was filling it. He was about nine feet behind his mate when a small piece of coal fell off the side and he was hit by it. He was removed to Denaby Hospital where it was thought he would soon recover but he died today.
