- 19 November 1923: Brusher Killed in a Fife Pit - Peter M'Gonegal (27), who resided at 18 Main Street, Hill of Beath, son of a widow who lives at Carron Shore, was killed in Dalbeath pit, belonging to the Fife Coal Co., yesterday. He was employed as a brusher, and with other workers, had lit two shots. One went off, and, thinking the other had not been lit, he went forward to see, with the result that it went off, causing instantaneous death. [Scotsman 20 November 1923]
