- 1 August 1916: Fatal Pit Accident at Irvine - Peter Trainer, miner, residing in Cotton Row, Irvine, was killed on Tuesday while at work in Warrix Pit, near Irvine. Along with a pit fireman named William M'Gill, who resides in East Road, Irvine, was crushed between a hutch and the roof of the pit. M’Gill escaped with injuries to his chest, head and leg. Trainer is survived by a widow. [Hamilton Advertiser 5 August 1916]
