At the close of his shift this joy was found at a curve, pinned between the tail rope and a guide rail. His pony, which he should have taken out with him, was at the landing. There can be little doubt he was riding on the set and was either thrown off or caught when in the act of jumping off. He was badly injured and died on the way to Durham County Hospital.
