17 August 1915: Blantyre - Miner Electrocuted - Bardykes Colliery, owned by the Summerlee Company, was, on Tuesday, the scene of a tragic fatality, the victim being John M'Dougal (29), roadsman, who resided at Broompark Road, Larkfield, Blantyre. The unfortunate man came in contact with an electric cable and was electrocuted, death being instantaneous. The deceased leaves a widow and three children. [Hamilton Advertiser 21 August 1915] Bardykes, Newton, Lanarkshire, August 17th, Accident due to electric shock. Following upon a fall of roof in a roadway in which a cable was run, two repairers were sent to remove the debris. The current was not cut off the cable and one of the repairers received a fatal shock owing to his shovel coming in contact with a bared conductor.
