Details of Event
Deceased was working in a trench underneath a staging which was resting on the struts put in between the sides of the trench. The trench was 8 feet deep, and the staging was 1 foot below the top of the trench. A strut supporting one end of the staging broke, allowing the end to fall, and McDonald was struck on the head and died within a few minutes. The strut had been materially weakened, having been partly severed by an axe by some person unknown.
