- Fell down shaft. A Cambusbarron man met with a terrible death at Fallin Colliery on Monday night (9 October 1933). About 6.00 pm Ellis McDonald (35), Underground Fireman, Main Street, Cambusbarron, was working on the landing in the shaft at No 3 Polmaise Colliery, Fallin, when he stumbled and fell to the bottom of the shaft, a distance of about 300 feet. He was immediately brought to the surface room where he was examined by Dr King, Bannockburn, who pronounced life extinct. His injuries were a broken neck, fractures of both legs and fracture of right arm. McDonald was a married man. (Stirling Journal).
