- Killed by pit bing hutch. An accident, resulting in the death of Alan McDonald (52), pitworker, Loanfoot, Millhall, occurred at Millhall Colliery on Monday morning. A number of hutches were being taken up the 'red bing' to be emptied. It was found that they could not be emptied at a particular spot and the haulage man was signalled to shift them further up the bing. McDonald went over to see what was the matter and was evidently struck by one of the hutches. He was removed to Stirling Royal Infirmary where he was found to have received a compound fracture to both legs, the right leg having to be amputated. He died in the Infirmary on Tuesday afternoon.
