- 15 May 1916: Larkhall - Fatal Pit Accident - Early on Monday morning John W M'Dade (30), miner, residing at Drygate Street, Larkhall, lost his life in Swinhill Colliery, belonging to the Darngavil Coal Company, Ltd. He was working in the Kiltongue seam, No.2 Pit, at the machine walls, when a large stone fell from the roof, completely enveloping the unfortunate workman and causing instantaneous death. The body was examined by Dr Morrison. Deceased leaves a widow. [Hamilton Advertiser 20 May 1916]
