- 8 June 1917: MINER KILLED AT CARMYLE. - Airdrie, Saturday. - Thomas Orr M'Culloch (45), a miner, residing at 22 Earl Street, Scotstoun, has been fatally injured in No.1 Kenmuirhill Colliery, Carmyle, belonging to the Glasgow Coal Company, Limited. He had been engaged at his working place howking out the bottom coal below a seam of fireclay, when sixteen feet of the clay came away on top of him, breaking his neck and causing instantaneous death.
