- Details of Event
- Deceased was driving five full tubs outbye with a pony, along a broad, high roadway with well laid rails, having a slight fall outbye, when the rolleywayman, whom he had passed at the inbye landing, heard a crash, and on running up found that the first tub was derailed, the back end upended, the pony had fallen down, and the second tub was also off the way. Deceased was lying between the first tub and the pony amongst the loose coal with his head bent backwards, and he was dead when extricated. The only explanation put forward was that the first two tubs became locked buffererd causing the first tub to derail and upend, and so throwing deceased forward. He would probably be riding on the top of the first tub.
