- November 1935: The first accident occurred at Wester Gartshore Colliery, where John M'Cormack (52), a brusher, was buried by a fall of stone while working at a part of No.1 Pit known as "Cloven Coal Section," situated approximately 1200 yards from the pit bottom. Death was certified as being due to suffocation. [Scotsman 23 November 1935]
