He was sent to fetch a shovel from the 182-fathom level to the one, below which he worked with some men in a stope. He was climbing the ladders between these levels in Willoughby’s shaft, and had evidently fallen from the ladder, as he was found on the platform at the foot of one of them, 8 or 9 feet above the 182-fathom level, but how it occurred is unknown. The ladders were in good order.
