Roof fall. Peter McCann (40), pan shifter, 15 McGowan Row, Cowie, was killed while at work in No.2 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Millhall, Stirling on Sunday. A stone weighing three tons fell from the roof pinning him to the ground. Assistance was immediately obtained but when McCann was extricated, he was dead and Dr Hugh King, Fallin, later certified death to be due to a dislocated neck. (Stirling Observer).
