- 20 March 1939: While at work yesterday in No.6 Mine, Broxburn, belonging to Scottish Oils, Ltd., Alexander M'Callum (40), a shale miner, who resided at Main Street, Uphall, was fatally injured by a fall of shale from the roof. M'Callum died while being conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. [Scotsman 21 March 1939]
