- Details of Event
- He had been engaged in plumbing the South pit winding shaft to test positions of the wire guide ropes and was on the staging at pit bottom when a cage came down on him, and so crushed him that he died in two days’ time. It appears that the cage had left the surface to convey a pumpman to a lodge room in the shaft, and was expected to return to the surface again. It being a Sunday there was no banksman in attendance at the surface.
