Shaft Accident - overwind killed 18 and injured 11. During the rescue operations, one of the workers was badly injured. J. Maxwell who had started work at the pit only that morning was the pit bottom at the time of the accident and was seriously injured when he fell from the top deck platform while assisting in the recovery.
