- Details of Event
- This man and his marrow were altering timber in an inclined place. It was desired to get the props set in a straight line. They had done part of the work, and wished to move one baulk endways slightly. They knocked out the two end props and loosened the middle one, and then tried to shuffle the baulk along towards the left side of the place. The baulk canted over, and let down the ‘ramble’ above. The baulks next inbye then canted out and let down more ramble which fell on Maughan and so severely injured him that he died three days afterwards. The work they had done had, apparently not been well done, and the method of moving the baulk along, having regard to the nature of the roof, was very bad.
