27 May 1930: Miner Killed By A Fall - Thomas Maton, 17 Mid Street, Lochgelly, was killed in a mining accident in Minto Colliery, belonging to the Lochgelly Iron and Coal Company, yesterday. Ho was pinned beneath a fall of coal, and death was instantaneous. Deceased was 37, married and had four children. He was a son-in-law of Baillie Motion, Lochgelly. [Scotsman 28 May 1930] Lochgelly Miner Killed - Crushed by Fall of Rock - While engaged at work in the 14 feet section of No 1 Pit Minto Colliery, belonging to the Lochgelly Iron and Coal Company, Thomas Maton, miner, residing at Mid Street, Lochgelly, was fatally injured by a fall of rock from the roof of his working place which occurred about [illegible] on Tuesday morning.
