He and another signalled to be drawn up the shaft. Instead of raising the cage, the engineman lowered it into the sump; deceased tried to get out but was caught between the cage and the dividers and killed. The occurrence took place during the night. Contrary to notices posted up the engineman bad two men in the engine-house with him, having "croust," and had not understood the signals given. He was dismissed.
