- Details of Event
- Deceased and another workman were going through a tunnel leading to the quarry when they observed a load of wagons pushed by a locomotive slowly approaching the tunnel from the quarry end. The tunnel was 51 yards long, and the men were near the centre, but instead of turning back they proceeded forward, expecting to get out of the tunnel safely. The wagons, however, entered the tunnel before deceased, who was somewhat crippled, could get clear, and he was caught by one of the tail-boards (which projected over the side) and fatally crushed.
