28 March 1923: Lumphinnans Under-Manager's Sudden Death - A tragic incident took place in No.1 Pit, Lumphinnans Colliery, on Wednesday, when Mr Alex. C. Martin, under-manager of the colliery died suddenly. Mr Martin, who was at the pit bottom talking to an oversman, was suddenly taken ill, and, collapsing in the arms of the oversman, expired from what is supposed to be heart failure. He leaves a widow and family, who reside at Bridge Cottage, Lumphinnans. [Dunfermline Journal 31 March 1923]
