- Details of Event
- Large fall of roof in the working place, extending over 20 feet by 10 feet by 6 inches at widest part. It was let down by a smooth from under which the coal had just been taken out on the lower side and broke on the higher. It was in the "broken" where they were working out the pillars. No doubt the weighting, although slight, would affect it in relation to the upper bed in consequence of a smooth parting. It fell without warning, and deceased's comrade had a very narrow escape from being killed as his hand was pinned on the end of a tub by the fall, and was not released for 20 minutes. The stone fortunately rested on the end of the tub, and did not break.
