- Details of Event
- He was engaged, with his chargeman, in withdrawing timber from an old main road. A sylvester pull jack was being used and the fixed end chain and the pulling chain were fastened round similar bars. The bar at the fixed end gave way first and allowed about 40 tons of roof to fall. Marsh was buried and killed outright and the chargeman sustained a fractured leg. The accident was, due to an error in judgement on the part of the latter in not having set a special prop to which to fix the pull jack.
