- Details of Event
- He and his mate were ripping a road and at the time of the accident were drilling a hole for a shot to blow down some sandstone under which two props were set. The deceased chipped the top of one of the props which was hard set and, though advised by his mate to put up a fore set, knocked the prop out with a hammer. Immediately he did so stone weighing a ton fell from the roof injuring him so seriously that he died two hours afterwards. A break was clearly visible before the accident, and as it was also evident that the roof had settled on the timber it was reckless to knock out the prop whilst under the roof it was supporting.
