- 16 July 1922: Fatal Accident in a Stirlingshire Colliery - While working at a coal-cutting machine in the Fallin [Polmaise] colliery, yesterday afternoon, Patrick Marren, Bow Street, Stirling, met with an accident which proved fatal. He was removed to the Stirling Royal Infirmary suffering from severe injuries to the body and both legs, but died a few hours after being admitted. [Scotsman 18 July 1922]
Machinery – He was ratchetting in the bar of a coal cutting machine while in a kneeling position. Owing to the machine making a sudden slip away from him he overbalanced. The picks caught his loose clothing and he was drawn round the bar. He received severe abdominal injuries and died 17 hours later. Newspaper report - Stirlingshire pages
