- Details of Event
- The accident occurred at the bottom of a main dip with a gradient of 2ins. per yard. An empty journey of four tubs had been stopped about 50 yards from the dip bottom, and after standing on the rope a few minutes the bondminder signalled for them to be lowered. By some means the first tub became uncoupled and ran amain to the bottom, where, instead of taking the curve, it left the rails and knocked out a tree, the end of which struck deceased and fractured his skull, front which injury he died next morning. Deceased had been working near the curve at bottom of incline, and apparently went to rest a few minutes when he was caught as above stated. It was a most unsuitable place for a man to be when tubs were running.
