On getting to the meeting station on the night of January 3rd. he told the deputy he had bruised his leg by falling against a tub in the stables. The deputy examined the leg and found it was red and swollen. The boy worked a few hours and then went home. He was admitted to Sunderland Infirmary on January 6th, and an operation was performed. An abscess was forming under the membrane. He got gradually worse and on January l2th acute pneumonia set in, resulting in death the next day.
