- He was engaged cutting rock at the base of the quarry, a piece about 3cwts suddenly fell from an unseen joint at a height of 50 feet killing him instantly. The accident occurred two days after a heavy downfall of rain, and this had apparently percolated into the joint and loosened the ground.
