- Details of Event
- Crushed by tubs. Train of 32 tubs drawn along a level by an endless rope under tubs attached by lashing chains worked by small haulage engine. Speed two to four miles per hour, level 8 ft. wide, 6 ft. high, expected to walk before the tubs. No one saw the accident. Either he stumbled whilst walking before the tubs which passed on to him, or more probably he was riding standing on the rope before the tubs and lost his hold and fell so that the tubs passed on to him. His right foot was torn off and found fast between the rope, lashing chain and tub, which supports the belief he was riding. Riding is prohibited. It would be wiser to provide a proper seat and make it safe to ride.
