- Deceased was working 30 yards from the shaft in a gate road in the Thick Coal which had old gob on one side when the place weighted and a fall occurred, followed by the closing in of the old gob. He was knocked face downwards and fastened by the legs, and a further fall covered him almost to the waist. Efforts to release him proved ineffectual and he succumbed three hours later death being due to suffocation, accelerated by the heat of the place, which was excessive.
