- Details of Event
- A block of granite, 12 feet long by 6.5 feet wide by 5 feet thick, was resting a an angle of 1 in 2 on the bottom of the quarry. it had been split horizontally, and the top slab split again vertically, thus making three pieces. Immediately under the bottom end of the block was a smaller uneven piece which it was thought necessary to remove. Mannaton was drilling a hole in this smaller piece with a band air drill, and the vibration caused one of the top side of the block to slide towards him. He tried to get out of the way of it, but was not quick enough, and his foot was caught and his leg fractured. He died eleven days later, after having his leg amputated.
