- Details of Event
- He was working at the bottom of a sinking shaft. A piece of granite, 4lbs.in weight, fell from the shaft side. In falling it dashed against a projecting piece of side, rebounded, struck the back of his head and fractured his skull. It is said to be customary to examine the whole of the shaft sides every two days, and Nankervis made the last examination two days before the accident. If the sides had been cased the accident might have been avoided.
