- He was riding on the top of the thirty first tub in a train of 38 full tubs which was being brought by the main hauling rope to the shaft bottom, when the tub got off the way at a crossing rail and he was thrown under the tubs, run over and killed. The cause of the tub leaving the rails was probably that it had a bent axle.
