Whilst working on the picking belt he was struck on the nose by a piece of coal alleged to have been thrown by a fellow workman. He continued at work until the 13th of September when septic poisoning and erysipelas Supervened, and ho died on February 15th, 1911, from heart failure, due to septicaemia.
