- Details of Event
- Deceased was a driver of a trace pony (a nervous animal) in the main engine landing and owing to a sudden start in pulling some full tubs, the straps carrying the stretcher bar of the pony's gear broke, and he took the pony into the horse-hole in the landing to he out of the way. Directly after, another driver heard the pony running quickly down the landing. It was stopped some 200 yards away, when it was found that one of the pony's side chains was fastened round deceased's foot with the hook let into one of the links of the chain, and that he had been dragged this distance by the pony. How the deceased got the chain into this position there was no evidence to show, and he died two days later from a fractured skull.
