11 October 1935: Fatal Accident in Sanquhar Pit - Alan Macfadzean, aged 33, was killed by a roof fall in the Whitehill Section of Gateside pit, Sanquhar, yesterday. He had fired his last shot for the day and was returning to the face to fill his last hutch of coal when a stone fell and struck him. Death was instantaneous.
