He and others were engaged in filling up a fall which had occurred on a roadway some 60 yards from the face when a further fall occurred, which knocked out some more timbers and killed him. This is always dangerous work and has to depend on the judgement of those employed at it. He is said to have been a skilled man and a leading hand there were also ether experienced men at the place, some of whom had narrow escapes.
