- Details of Event
- He was walking along the 490 fathom level stope tramway, a place 30 feet high and 60 or 70 feet wide at the top when suddenly and without any warning he was buried under a huge mass, estimated to be 400 tons, of bastard lode which fell 30 feet from the hanging wall. The extent of the fall was 60 feet long by 60 feet wide, averaging about 2 feet 6 inches in thickness A slip seen afterwards, formed the back of it. Before commencing work the "taker" had made only a superficial examination of the hanging wall by means of a lighted tonite placed on the floor. It had not been sounded for a long time, consequently its weakness was not revealed.
