Along with his mate he was removing the stone displaced by two shots and building a pack in a gateway when a stone measuring 5 feet long by 3 feet 3 inches wide by 12 inches thick, fell away at a weight break, caught and killed him. The break could be seen below the stone fell and it should have been pulled down directly the shots were fired.
