- Details of Event
- It was the duty of Lockwood to take small trucks containing 1.5 tons down to a line with a gradient of 1 in 18. The trucks moved by their own gravity and were controlled with the brakes. The morning was wet and Lockwood was ordered to take only one truck at a time but he foolishly took two and tried to control them by standing on the buffer of the last one and putting on the brake with his foot. The trucks overpowered him and collided with a train of wagons and he was killed.
