- Details of Event
- 28 May 1923: Thomas Lochhead (41), a pit sinker, residing at Stirling Bridge, Newmains, was killed while at work yesterday at Parkhead Colliery, Motherwell. Deceased had been engaged in the work of sinking a shaft from the splint coal to the black band seam. Lochhead and another workman had just closed in the slides for the purpose of allowing the cage to travel up and down. He stepped onto a bar on which the cage rests, which gave way beneath him, precipitating him to the bottom of the shaft. [Glasgow Herald 29 May 1923]
